First attempt at shading my hand. I did the hard lines first and then made a new layer to try the shading. Turned out better than I expected but then again I have exceedingly low expectations at this point.

This is day 2's attempt. Took a little longer than yesterdays. May have to start shading soon.

Hand #1

Here is my baseline. I drew this in photoshop. It took me about 20 minutes. I turned out better than I thought it would but it is incredibly simplistic. I don't know ho to shade or draw the little hair or small crevices on the back of my hand. Still I long way to go.

What I am doing

My teacher once told me that if one wants to get better at art one should draw 100 hands. They are complex, practical and one is always available for observation.

I am not a very dedicated person. I find it difficult to stick to something which I cant measure my progress in. This is why I have not ever put much time into drawing, because it is difficult to see progress for the time you put in.

However if I can draw just one thing over and over every day, and stick to it I think that I might be able to get over the hump of having zero skill to being able to produce something that I am not embarrassed if people I know see. So everyday I will be looking at my left hand and I will draw what I see. Then I will post the result here for everyone else to see.

Here we go then.
